Mary Woodward Garden: Cultivating Minds
The Mary Woodward Garden gives students hands-on opportunities to learn, explore, and connect with nature, and we need more volunteers to help keep this special space thriving! This two-acre garden includes 16 raised beds and a covered classroom. Our teachers and students use this space as a valuable learning area to explore plants, insects, and the natural world around them.
Volunteers can help in many different ways, like weeding, planting, maintenance, garden projects, crafts, and/or special events throughout the year. Opportunities are flexible- you can help regularly, choose specific weeks, or volunteer when your schedule allows.

Mary Woodward Annual
Fall Garden Clean Up
Join us for our Mary Woodward Annual Fall Garden Clean Up Event!
Date: Sunday, November 8th
Time: 9:00am-3:00pm (flexible shifts)
Our Mary Woodward Garden is a special part of our school, and we need our community’s help to keep it thriving! This is a great opportunity for families to come together and help care for a space our students enjoy throughout the year.
Shifts are flexible and entire families are welcome! Come for an hour, stay for the day morning, or help throughout the day- every helping hand makes a difference. More hands, lighter the work.
There will be a break around 12pm-1pm for BBQ lunch (hot dog, chips, & water) provided for all volunteers.
Please sign up here so we can get an accurate headcount for food and plan for when extra help would be needed throughout the day.
Garden Corner- October 16, 2026
Beautiful fall days in our school garden have instilled reminders of the value of school gardens as gateways to:
. Gain understanding of where our food comes from, a love of gardening and getting your hands dirty!… when our 1st graders planted our garlic bed this week!
. Build curiosity and scientific minds!… when our 4th graders became botanists, using their senses to describe and name various plants from our school garden. They learned about both native, and invasive ones.
. Inspire artists!…when our 5th graders visited the garden to observe and sketch sunflowers. In their classrooms the following day, they added beautiful water color!
. Instill wonder, awe, and love of nature!…when our Kindergarteners visited the garden, after enjoying the story, The Bumblebee Garden, to observe and thank the bees on our flowers!
Thank you, dear Woodward families for all you do to sustain and grow our school garden!
